One of the most time-consuming processes in data analysis is finding reliable data and converting them into an easily manageable format.
Our goal is to collect data from various sources and organize them in a way to motivate and facilitate research on COVID-19. We provide an organized and updated database, readily accessible by anyone interested.
The database concerns the spread of COVID-19 mainly in Greece, but also worldwide. We combine data from various sources, such as:
Our database is automatically updated on a daily basis, so that we can provide a near real-time depiction of the situation.
APIs (Application Programming Interface) have proven to be very useful tools for monitoring the spread of COVID-19 worldwide.
Our goal is to develop an API, in order to provide near real-time data on the spread of COVID-19 in Greece. The service will be available for public use free of charge.
Our motivation is to ensure that researchers and any other interested party can obtain reliable, up-to-date data without hassle.
To communicate the data we collect on the spread of the pandemic to the general public, so that people can easily extract valuable insights, we need to visually represent them in an intuitive way, with interactive maps and charts.
Our team is collaborating with the Data and Web Science Lab at the Department of Informatics at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh), which has published a dashboard monitoring the pandemic worldwide, that comprises visualizations of epidemiological data and socio-economic analyses. The dashboard can be found at https://covid19.csd.auth.gr/.
More specifically, the research group uses our https://covid-19-greece.herokuapp.com/ to capture the spread of the virus in Greece. You can track the pandemic in real time here.
Refugee Camps are exposed to a high risk in terms of pandemic spread, due to them being densely populated, thus falling into a special category the state of which should be monitored.
In an effort to track down the situation in Greece’s Refugee Camps, an Explanatory and Open Data Visualization Tool has been developed concerning COVID-19 pandemic spread in those camps.
The aforementioned services are offered through the Web Application OpenDataRef. The development process as well as technical maintenance of the application are supported by members of the voluntary community Covid-19 Response Greece, while the data validity mission is undertaken by the Postgraduate Programme “Global Health – Disaster Medicine” Department of Medicine - National Kapodistrian University of Athens, in the context of our partnership with the NKUA.
The application utilizes data from the open source data service Coronavirus Greece API, which is available for public use.
